Kenyans' views: new links

Hear Kenyan voices: find out what Kenyans are saying about post-election violence! Check out the new links for News out of Kenya on right sidebar:

Kenyan Friends, their reports and voices, are sometimes featured on blogs and sites mostly managed and authored by expatriate staff and their support teams: AGLI's Quaker Service (David Zarembka in Lugari); Among Friends (Carol Holmes); Friends World Committee for Consultation's FWCC Kenya News blog; and Friends United Meeting (you will find links recently added on the main page of the website).

Indymedia is "a collective of independent media organizations and hundreds of journalists offering grassroots, non-corporate coverage. Indymedia is a democratic media outlet for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of truth." (This is a non-Quaker source of information with material written by Kenyans, recommended by a writer affiliated with AFSC.)

White African features a list of bloggers covering the post-election crisis. Three are featured in the News out of Kenya (right sidebar): African Path, Afromusing, and Kenyan Pundit.

Kenyans have created a website to serve as "a tool for people who witness acts of violence in Kenya in these post-election times. You can report the incident that you have seen, and it will appear on a map-based view for others to see. We are working with local Kenyan NGO’s to get information and to verify each incident." See the link for Ushahidi (which means "Witness" in Kiswahili).

Finally, see a page of the allafrica.com news website, PeaceAfrica. This page will interest Quakers and others who support peaceful solutions to conflict. It is funded by the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations, featuring articles published in African periodicals, with an emphasis on "Supporting Africa's Peacebuilders."
